From Competition to Collaboration: How the six biggest cities in Finland teamed up and succeeded in smart city development
6Aika is the joint strategy of the six largest cities in Finland (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku and Oulu), ongoing between 2014-21. Together, the cities have tackled the challenges of urbanisation, evolving towards ever smarter and inherently human-centric cities. With over 50 projects implemented, the cities together with companies, residents and R&D&I organisations have worked on themes related to e.g. circular economy and energy efficiency, learning, smart mobility and employment and competence.
